XREAL is going all-in on Android XR with more glasses coming in Google partnership

At CES 2026, XREAL has announced a new partnership with Google that will see Android XR act as the foundation of the company’s future hardware plans.

In a press release, XREAL says that it is aligning its “long-term hardware roadmap with the Android XR platform.”

XREAL explains:

Google and XREAL today announced a multi-year extension of their strategic partnership, with XREAL as a lead hardware partner for the Android XR ecosystem.

Building on the foundation of Project Aura, coming in 2026, this deepened collaboration aligns XREAL’s long-term hardware roadmap with the Android XR platform. The companies will collaborate on bringing Android XR to optical-see-through devices, like wired XR glasses, and work to expand support for Android XR development.

There are a couple of notable points here. Firstly, XREAL says it will be “a lead hardware partner” for Android XR going forward. The only other name thus far has been Samsung, but this is still great to see, as XREAL has been investing heavily in the XR market for a while now.

Also mentioned here is support for further Android XR hardware coming from XREAL. This includes “wired XR glasses” and “optical-see-through devices,” both of which sound similar to the “Project Aura” glasses already in the pipeline.

This week at CES, XREAL also announced its new XREAL 1S glasses, as well as an upgraded pair of glasses designed for gaming in collaboration with ASUS’ ROG brand.
