Google TV update rolling out with homescreen tweak, new settings

Google TV updates aren’t all that frequent or major anymore, but there are new tweaks here and there, including a homescreen fixes and a couple of settings changes rolling out now.

As we’ve said repeatedly in recent years, major Android OS updates for Google TV rarely make any notable changes for the end user. Rather, most new features and visible changes stem from the “Google TV Home” app that controls your homescreen, Quick Settings, as well as portions of the Settings app.

As of Google TV Home 1.0.852105632, a couple of new tweaks are visible.

In recent months, Google TV has added new “Google Home” and “Voice assistant” sections to the Settings menu under “Accounts & profiles.” These features were added a while ago – in late 2024 for Google Home and in 2025 for Gemini – but the settings pages are a little bit newer, having not appeared in the 1.0.767786292 release which was widely available in mid-2025.

The newest addition appears to be a “Report history” section. The new history menu, as Google says, will show “the status of reports you’ve submitted.” It’s not exactly clear what “reports” Google is referring to, though. We can speculate that Google might be preparing to let users report inappropriate ads or content recommendations, as has been a problem for some time, but we couldn’t find anything in this latest version. We’re not completely sure if “Report history” landed in this newest update, but it is a recent addition, and we’re seeing it widely available across Google TV devices.

Beyond that, it seems Google has also addressed problems with YouTube video thumbnail previews on the homescreen, a long-standing issue. This one appears to be a server-side fix as far as we can tell as we’re seeing improved thumbnails on older Google TV Home app versions, or it might rooted in the YouTube app itself, but it is a fairly recent adjustment, and a user on Reddit showed the corrected thumbnails. The same user claims to have noticed smaller thumbnails for homescreen content, but we haven’t noticed this on our end.
