Google’s mostly-forgotten Pixel Tablet is getting a new lease on life, as the company is giving its one and only tablet another two years of Android OS updates to match the policy on its phones.
With the first few generations of Tensor-powered Pixel devices, Google carried a policy of 3 years of major Android OS updates followed by 2 additional years of security updates. In 2023, though, Google pushed this way out to 7 years of both Android OS and security updates on the Pixel 8 series, a policy that’s continued through newer generations.
At the end of 2024, Google went back the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series and extended Android OS updates to match the 5-year period in which security updates are delivered.
Now, the same has been done for the Pixel Tablet.
Google quietly updated its support page for the Pixel Tablet to show that both Android OS and security updates will now continue through June 2028, where it previously showed that OS updates would end in June 2026.
The Pixel Tablet runs Android OS. This device will get updates for 5 years starting from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US.
This includes 5 years of OS and security updates, and may also include new and upgraded features with Pixel Drops.
With this change in mind, Google’s support policy for Pixel devices looks as follows:
- 7 years of Android OS & security updates: Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold
- 5 years of Android OS & security updates: Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet

While the Pixel Tablet wasn’t a huge success, it’s great to see software support continuing.
