Dual-network tracker support is all the rage these days, and that means plenty of third-party tracking gadgets that were once exclusive to Apple are expanding into the world of Android. Today, KeySmart is next up with its latest SmartCard wallet tracker.
KeySmart’s new SmartCard is an advancement in practically every degree over its previous generation, but it’s the added support for Find Hub that’s the biggest deal here. Like its rivals, KeySmart now supports either tracking network, and while you can’t keep both active at the same time, you can reset your device if you want to jump from a Pixel to an iPhone or vice versa. Switching from either platform is as easy as removing the card from whichever service it was initially paired with, after which it’ll return to pairing mode.
It’s not just Find Hub support that’s new here, though. This third-gen SmartCard makes some noticeable tweaks over its previous generation, including a slimmer 1.8mm frame that eliminates .2mm from its predecessor. Despite this, battery life is more than doubled, achieving 11 months on a single charge and supporting Qi wireless charging to power back up. There’s no wireless charger in the box, though, so if you’re planning on picking one of these up and you don’t have a Qi-supported charger, you’ll need to throw one in your shopping cart. Finally, like its predecessor, it’s IPX8 water-resistant.
I managed to get my hands on an early review unit, and so far, I’m pretty impressed. Charging was quick and painless, with a simple LED light alerting me when the card was fully powered, and pairing with both Android and iPhone — and, more specifically, switching between the two platforms — was particularly easy. That said, keep in mind that it is bulkier than your run-of-the-mill credit card. If you’re relying on an ultra-slim magnetic wallet, finding space for any tracker might require removing one of your current cards.
KeySmart’s third-gen SmartCard is priced at $40 for a single unit. It’s also available in both 3-pack and 5-pack quantities for $90 and $130, respectively.
