Galaxy S25 Ultra outsold its predecessor, leaves Galaxy S26 Ultra with big shoes to fill

As Samsung prepares to announce the new Galaxy S26 series, recent sales data shows that the Galaxy S25 Ultra significantly outperformed the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung will want to ride that trend with the Galaxy S26 series.

The company’s previous flagship, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, came through the year as one of the top-selling devices of 2025. While that isn’t new information, a new report from Counterpoint Research details just how well it did over the previous model.

According to that data, the Galaxy S25 Ultra represented a 7% gain in sales from the Galaxy S24 Ultra the year before. The data was taken from the period that covers the device’s launch to the end of the year. In year totals, the Galaxy S25 surpassed the previous flagship, even though the phone had a rocky start.

It looks like the Galaxy S25 Ultra had a slightly better mid-year average, while the end of the year shows some similar numbers between the two. It’s also worth noting that the Galaxy S25 series as a whole outperformed the S24 series, with sales up 5%.

This all comes as Samsung is prepping the launch of the Galaxy S26 series, which includes the same device structure of a base model, Plus variant, and Ultra version. With that, the company will likely want to keep things positive.

What may provide a barrier is the rising cost of memory and materials as manufacturers prioritize high-bandwidth memory for AI datacenters to meet demand. That rise is expected to meet the S26 series, as prices are said to increase. How much each device will be remains up in the air, but even a $50 increase on some models is a lot when the flagship model costs over $1,000.
