Oppo and Honor tease the first crease-less foldables – maybe for real this time

The display crease has been one of the biggest downsides of foldables, and it’s one that we haven’t really seen fixed. But that might all change soon, as both Oppo and Honor are teasing a wave of foldables that don’t have a crease.

The Honor Magic V6 and the Oppo Find N6 are both set to debut in the next few weeks – Honor’s device launching on March 1 – which are seemingly making strides forward in terms of minimizing the display crease.

Starting there, Honor executive Wang Fei shared images on Weibo that show off a foldable that, by all accounts, looks like it doesn’t have a crease.

Through other teasers and posts, as GSMArena points out, Honor has hinted at a new “Super Steel Hinge” which improves durability, while Honor has also suggested that the updated design doesn’t compromise on battery life, the thin design, or IP68/69 dust and water resistance.

Meanwhile, a video shared by Sparrows News shows behind the scenes of Oppo Find N6 production, where Oppo shows that the Find N6 doesn’t have a crease even after substantial use. The display crease tends to get worse over time on all foldables, but a unit shown in the video apparently made it through 170,000 folds on an automated testing line still didn’t have a crease. That’s impressive, to say the least.

But, with both of these new devices, we’ll have to wait to see how this holds up in the real-world.

As mentioned, Honor Magic V6 is set to launch at MWC on March 1, but there’s no firm release date for Oppo’s next foldable just yet.
