Nothing Headphone (a) adds more bass, color, 135-hour battery life for $199

Following up on its first over-ear headphones released last year, Nothing has just announced Headphone (a) as a more affordable option with added colors and, somehow, longer battery life too.

Nothing Headphone (1) was the brand’s first time expanding beyond earbuds and into over-ear headphones. And, in our review, we found that they were a solid option, especially for the price, with good active noise cancellation and great battery life.

So what’s new with Nothing Headphone (a)?

Besides the lower starting price of $199 (compared to $299), Headphone (a) also drops the weight down to 310g, while delivering frankly insane battery life. Nothing says that, with ANC off, Headphone (a) will run for up to 135 hours on a single charge. That’s up from 80 hours on Headphone (1).

But you’ll still get the same controls with a roller, paddle, and button. Nothing is also adding support for using the button as a remote trigger for the camera on your connected phone, configurable through the Nothing X app. You’ll also still get adaptive ANC and wireless hi-res audio, as well as LDAC support. There’s Google Fast Pair support on Android, of course. The sound specs are pretty familiar too – 40mm driver, ANC up to 40dB (with two less microphones), etc – but without tuning by KEF.

Nothing says that it has designed these headphones with deeper bass, including “AI-powered Dynamic Bass Enhancement” to boost lower frequencies. Nothing says it designed this with the preference of the “younger generation” in mind.

Nothing Headphone (a) are available for pre-order today with open sales on March 13. Black, white, and pink colors will all be standard offerings, while the yellow is a limited edition release available starting on April 6. Pricing lands at £149 / $199 / €159.

Stay tuned for a full review in the coming weeks.
