The compact Android tablet that beat Lenovo Legion Tab is also getting a 2026 sequel

Compact Android tablets have seen a bit of a revival in the past couple of years as a focus on gaming has taken over. One of the most popular faces to this has been the Lenovo Legion Tab, but there was one option released last year that we felt improved on the idea in some ways, and now that Redmagic Astra is getting a sequel.

During MWC 2026 last week, Lenovo revealed the new Legion Tab (Gen 5) with a better IPS LCD display, a much bigger battery, and the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor inside, but also a much higher price tag. All while still leaving some core issues on the table, such as a complete lack of biometrics.

Not to be forgotten, though, Redmagic has also started teasing its next compact Android tablet.

Last year’s Redmagic Astra gaming tablet proved to be a very good alternative to the Legion Tab, offering an AMOLED display and a fingerprint scanner at the same price point. Now, the new Redmagic “Gaming Tablet 5 Pro” is incoming, and looks to have more or less the same form factor in a recently-released teaser image (via NotebookCheck).

There’s no release date here, no spec sheet, just the promise that the tablet is “coming soon,” whereas Lenovo set a release window for the new Legion Tab (pictured below) as well as a full spec sheet.

Based on our time with Redmagic Astra last year, we’re certainly excited to see what’s in store for the sequel.
