The first trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day landed today and features a cameo by Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip foldable, but please don’t be like Peter Parker and put your foldable face down on rusty metal.
In the opening moments of the long-awaited first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter Parker is shown watching a video on his Galaxy Z Flip foldable – probably a Galaxy Z Flip 7, but it’s hard to tell. While the internet is quick to make jokes about the cost of the device given Peter’s current financial status in the MCU following the events of No Way Home, I’m more so horrified in how he’s using it.
Peter is shown not only placing his unfolded Flip face-down on a rusty metal beam, but he’s also bearing most of his weight on the poor foldable.
Foldable displays are a lot tougher than anyone gives them credit for, but this certainly isn’t how they’re supposed to be used. “That doesn’t sound responsible.”
Samsung, among other foldable brands, uses a plastic layer on top of ultra-thin glass to protect the display assembly which, being plastic, is more prone to scratches and other damage. There’s a whole list of precautions users should take, but putting it face down while unfolded is pretty much just common sense.
Then again, it’s not like Peter has been shown to be careful with his phones in the past. Spider-Man: Homecoming even makes a point of showing that his phone gets damaged throughout the film, following each battle. A foldable really doesn’t make sense for Peter’s “full-time Spider-Man” lifestyle in the new film.
Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31.
