This new Android Auto app can unlock your home’s front door

A new app is arriving on Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, giving drivers the ability to easily lock and unlock their home’s doors through their car’s touchscreen.

Kwikset, a major brand for door locks, has announced a new app available for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay which, as you’d expect, works with the locks on your home.

The app allows users to both lock and unlock their door using the screen in their car. It’s a handy option to have when voice commands aren’t ideal, especially as not all locks support unlocking over voice commands through assistants like Google Gemini.

With the Kwikset app now available within Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, users can control compatible Kwikset smart locks using their vehicle’s display. Once a smartphone is connected to the vehicle, either wired or wirelessly, the Kwikset app appears alongside other supported apps, allowing users to select their home and tap to lock or unlock their door.

An image of the CarPlay app was shared by the company, with the Android Auto version presumably looking very similar.

The Kwikset app for Android is available via the Google Play Store. Meanwhile, connected Kwikset locks can be purchased through retailers such as Amazon, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and others.
