Google first started rolling out a redesigned media player on Android Auto earlier this year with a squiggly Material 3 Expressive look, but it’s been slow to reach everyone. As of this week, though, it appears to have been launched a bit more widely.
Android Auto’s redesigned media player first started rolling out in January, but it quickly vanished due to what appeared to be a problem that broke steering wheel controls. That was later fixed, but the new media player still wasn’t showing for everyone.
As of this week, it appears to once again be widely available.
Users on Reddit note that, over the past 48 hours or so, Android Auto’s redesigned, Material 3 Expressive media player has apparently rolled out to a new wave of users. Several Redditors in the thread report seeing the new design show up overnight, or even just in a few hours in between drives.

Functionally, there’s really no major change here. It’s purely an aesthetic update to better align with Google’s updated design language for Android as a whole.
