Galaxy Z Fold ‘Wide’ will be easier to handle as One UI 9 leaks spout

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold “Wide” has been touched on in previous leaks, though recent One UI 9 screenshots add some more evidence that the company is pushing for a more substantial foldable, without adding more hinges.

Leaked One UI 9 screenshots were made available via SamMobile, which notes the images were captured from firmware for the Galaxy Z Fold “Wide” model. That firmware for SM-F971B comes from the unreleased One UI 9, which is expected to debut at the same time Samsung plans to release the new foldables.

The images show a very basic layout, likely presented in the settings menu as Samsung does with its tutorial pages. In that shot, the home screen seems to take on a 4:3 aspect ratio. That’s much wider than the nearly 1:1 design of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Now, this isn’t nearly as wide as the Galaxy Z TriFold, but it comes close without begging for more hardware and points of failure. Previous leaks note the phone will fit within a 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9mm profile. Comparatively, that’s around 34mm shorter than what the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be. As for width, it’s around 18.2mm wider.

The wider design falls firmly in the Google Pixel Fold, or Oppo Find N2 category. That short and stout design is a little easier to handle on a daily basis, compared to the taller, more unwieldy foldables that seem to have flooded the market. The caveat there tends to be scalability for apps that aren’t optimized for larger displays.

There’s still no official word on what Samsung is planning for its next launch, but it may be the first time another model is launch besides the standard Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip standard series.
