Samsung’s upcoming foldable lineup includes its first new mainstream form factor in years, as the “Wide” device enters the fold (ba dum) as a second book-style device. In a new leak of dummy units, we’re getting a better look at just how different the Galaxy Z Fold 8 “Wide” will be.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8’s wider sibling, thought to be called “Wide,” is set to be a pretty major departure for the lineup. Leaks have shown repeatedly how the new form factor with its inner 4:3 display will differ from the existing design, with a much wider inner panel and an outer display akin to the original Google Pixel Fold. The main Galaxy Z Fold 8, meanwhile, isn’t expected to change much at all.
Samsung is thought to be chasing, or at least pre-empting, Apple’s first foldable iPhone with this design.

As much as the dimensions tell us how different this new design will be, a picture is worth a thousand words – or two, in this case.
The infamous Sonny Dickson took to Twitter/X today to share images of alleged Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 “Wide” dummy units. These show the new devices side-by-side, really showing just how radically different the “Wide” is. It’s much wider and much shorter, falling into a footprint that feels not all that much larger than the Flip 8, especially considering that the standard Fold is roughly the size of a standard slab.
Notably, these dummies also show rings for the wireless charging hardware. Previously, we might have been excited at the implication of Qi2 magnets, but Samsung seems disinterested in properly adopting this industry standard – if anything, the company looks to continue making compatibility a nightmare.

Samsung is expected to launch these devices side-by-side and, personally, I’m excited for the “Wide.” I was a huge fan of the original Pixel Fold’s form factor, but I’m certainly curious to see the two side-by-side in person. With this closer look, though, it only continues to drive my own excitement.
What about you?
The new lineup of Galaxy Z foldables is reportedly launching on July 22.
