Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch Ultra update rolls out in the US, no Wear OS feature changes

Samsung is rolling through its security update list and pushing a firmware update to the Galaxy Watch 7, Watch 8, and Watch Ultra.

Starting with users in South Korea and now bringing it to the US, Samsung’s latest One UI Watch 8 security update is coming to the Galaxy Watch 7, Watch 8, and robust Galaxy Watch Ultra. These device groups make up the three latest editions of Samsung’s One UI smartwatches based on Wear OS 6.

The package containing Samsung’s update is quite minimal (via SammyGuru). It takes up no more than 200MB, so installing it should be routine. There’s nothing massive hiding inside the update, like new features or UI changes that would shake the experience up a bit. It also doesn’t appear to affect health tracking metrics or alter Samsung’s data presentation.

Updates like the one rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 7, 8, and Ultra are frequent, and necessary. Samsung is expected to bolster security and performance for older devices like the Galaxy Watch 6, but those updates are on a less frequent basis considering their age.

This comes shortly after a recent update to the smartwatch series may have affected user battery life. The May 2026 update does not appear to address these concerns, though it’s unclear if the issue is still widespread, as reports seem to have quieted.

The May 2026 update for the Galaxy Watch Ultra and company is expected to trickle out to other regions soon. The company is following the same rollout pattern it has set for the last few years, starting with South Korea, on to Europe and the US, and further out.
