Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, has just announced the long-anticipated release of its Specs AR smart glasses which will cost $2,195.

Unlike the audio-only and display glasses that have launched today, Snap Specs are augmented reality (AR) glasses that are designed to create experiences in the world around you, not just put information in front of your face. That’s the pitch, anyway, and it’s been in the works for years.

Out of the Augmented World Expo (AWE) this week, Snap has announced the first availability details for Specs.

The AR glasses are available for pre-order now with a $200 refundable deposit. They’ll ship in “Fall 2026” in the US, UK, and France, with a final price tag of $2,195. And, yes, they look like that.

The bulky, goggle-like design is a result of Specs putting all of the computing within the actual glasses. There’s no external battery, no computing puck, just the glasses themselves and, well, all of those components have to go somewhere. In fact, Specs are powered by a dual-chip architecture using Qualcomm chips. They won’t last too long, though, with just 4 hours of continuous power. You can plug them in while in use to extend power.

You can virtually try them on through the Specs website.

There’s a 51-degree field-of-view on the display, plus a built-in camera for capturing the world around you (with an indicator light to show when it’s in use).

And, again, it all costs $2,195. The $200 desposit goes towards that final cost.
