At this point, it’s clear that Samsung is planning to launch a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Fold 8, with the latter taking on a wider design when compared. The latest leaked render shows just how big of a difference there is between the two new foldables.
A rendered image of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra was posted online by leaker @UniverseIce to compare both sizes. The image is reportedly true to scale, though it’s impossible to verify until the announcement is official. A Galaxy S26 is also spotted in the image as a reference point, and the differences between the devices are telling.
First, this hardens the rumor that Samsung plans to release the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in a form factor that emulates what the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and several editions before it did. That means a taller device with a slimmer front display and a taller internal screen.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is what we’d consider a short and wide device, similar to the original Pixel Fold or the Oppo Find N2. The boxier profile means users get the benefit of a wider internal display when the phone is fully unfolded. Some prefer the design for productivity and entertainment, since it’s closer to the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio.
The leak doesn’t come with any concrete specs, but the comparison reveals a lot about the two upcoming devices. It’s a little early to tell which device will be the better sell, but there’s certainly a benefit to a wider internal display and more compact profile.
That said, the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 isn’t expected to be as powerful as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, including battery and camera performance, when compared. It is rumored to have a stronger internal display, given the shape and size.
Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8 on July 22 during the Galaxy Unpacked event.
