Samsung is betting big that you’ll want the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8, report details

A new report reveals Samsung’s plans for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 8, with the company betting big on its new wider foldable.

ETNews reports that Samsung’s production plans for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 go in exactly that order, with the company focusing its efforts on the wider and less expensive foldable. The initial run breaks down as follows, the report explains:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 (wide): 2.8 million units
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: 2 million units
  • Galaxy Z Flip 8: 1.5 million units

It’s quite the shift, as Samsung used to put more emphasis on the Galaxy Z Flip series over past Fold generations.

Samsung often adjusts these numbers over time based on demand, but having so much emphaiss on the new form factor shows that Samsung expects it to be a popular offering.

Overall foldable production this year isn’t expected to change much compared to last year, though. Where the Fold 7’s popularity pushed production volume numbers surpassing 6 million units, the company’s plans this year total around 5.5-6 million.
