Google’s Pixel 11 Glow might be called ‘HiLight’

The “Pixel Glow” name first appeared during the Android 17 Beta, but Google might actually launch it as “HiLight” on the Pixel 11 Pro.

In April, “Pixel Glow” appeared with Android 17 Beta 4. We enabled the preliminary settings screen for a hardware feature that uses “subtle light and color on the back of your device to inform you of important activity when it’s face down.”

Strings in the Settings app identified two specific features:

• Calls from favorites: Subtle lights when your favorite contacts call you
• Speaking with Gemini: Hands-free interactions using visual feedback

Google’s two teasers have shown how it appears alongside the flashlight in the Pixel 11 Pro Camera Bar. It allows for a full spectrum of colors, with the rotating effect very reminiscent of the Mac pinwheel.

According to Dylan Roussel today, Pixel Glow’s actual name is “HiLight.” This distinct camel case Google is reportedly using literally and quite playfully translates to “Hi Light.”

The name conveys how the feature will highlight your favorite contacts, as well as Gemini, while making clear it’s a physical light.

It remains to be seen whether third-party apps will be able to access HiLight, or if it’s just a feature for Google apps.
