Apple’s first foldable is likely going to be the world’s most popular foldable in due time, but the launch of iPhone Duo actually had the opposite effect off of the bat, with Galaxy Z Fold 8 seeing a surge in popularity.
ETNews reports that Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales in South Korea spiked by around 10% following the iPhone Duo’s unveiling compared to the week prior.
For Samsung’s home region, the jump is thought to be attributed to buyers who were on the fence between the two foldables and either walked away from Apple’s presentation unconvinced by the Duo, or simply balked at the price tag. While the Fold 8 ($1,899) and iPhone Duo ($1,999) share similar price points in the US and other markets, there’s a difference of 1 million won (about $700) in Korea.
Apple is expected to take a huge share of the overall foldable market with the launch of the Duo, though with Samsung still leading overall.
