After rolling out Live search and chat earlier this month, Gmail now has a useful “Copy code” button for 2FA on Android and iOS.
Instead of having to open an email to select and copy the two-factor authentication code, Gmail now shows a shortcut directly in your inbox. The pill-shaped “Copy code 000000” button appears below the subject line, like the previews for images, documents, and other attachments.
Tapping the button simply adds the code to your clipboard for a quick paste in the designated app.
We’ve seen it work for store and banking emails in our brief testing today. It’s a nice quality-of-life addition.
The Copy code button is appearing in Gmail for Android (version 2026.09.07.x) and iOS (6.0.260907), but not on the web. This shortcut would also be useful in email notifications on Android.
