YouTube has launched its first original movies and series’ exclusively for YouTube Red subscribers. In an aim to compete with the likes of Amazon and Netflix, YouTube has decided to play the subscription game, and give its paying subscribers a selection of content just for them. The first videos are now live, and have been developed in conjunction with some of the company’s best stars; Lilly Singh, Rooster Teeth, PewDiePie and AwesomenessTV.
If you’re a Red subscriber, you can watch the full shows now. If you’re not, you can check out the previews below or purchase individual shows/episodes.
Among the first projects to go live are ‘A Trip to Unicorn Island’, a feature length movie following Lilly Singh around the globe on her tour. Alongside that is an interesting series called ‘Scare PewDiePie’ which seems to involve the YouTube star competing in a real-life version of a video game. Lazer Team ia a “feature-length action-comedy from Rooster Teeth and Fullscreen Films,” and in it “four small-town losers stumble upon an alien ship carrying a mysterious cargo, leading to a battle to save Earth from an all-powerful enemy.”
YouTube first launched its Red service just a back at the end of October. The $10 per month service was launched to give users the option to watch completely ad-free videos. Sweetening the deal, customers who have signed up to Google Play Music’s streaming subscription get access to YouTube Red as part of their plan. Although its launch wasn’t without its obstacles, YouTube Red is now beginning to justify its price tag.
