There are plenty of streaming services available through Google TV and other Android devices, but to subscribe to every one of them at full price would cost a fortune. Here is our list of major streaming services on Google TV that offer some sort of a student discount.
Google TV is one of the biggest TV operating systems next to something like Amazon Alexa or even Apple TV. Each of those TV or streamer operating systems has its own app store, where streaming apps can easily be found. Google TV’s app store is simply the Google Play Store, positioned to offer TV-optimized apps.
There is nothing about Google TV that will determine whether or not you’ll be able to access a discounted cost. The service provider itself offers that, so we compiled a list of streaming services that offer a student discount. You can find these streaming services on Google TV through the Google Play Store.
What do I need to do to get a student discount?
Be aware that most of these offers will require some form of student ID, which requires uploading some form of personal data. Some services use the same service to keep tracked of student identification, like SheerID or UniiDAYS. As long as you have some form of student ID, you should be able to access the below plans.
Hulu
Hulu is owned by Disney now, and though it can be subscribed to at an individual rate, the parent company offers bundle for a better rate, though it involves shelling out quite a bit more money if you don’t want ads. While Hulu itself offers a discounted student rate, Disney+ does not.
Right now, students can get a discount on Hulu for $1.99/month. That offer includes access to the the Hulu (with ads) plan, which includes shows interspersed with ads. The offer comes out to 75% off, which is a pretty good discount considering the normal price comes in at $7.99/month.
Amazon Prime Video
Amazon‘s streaming service currently offers a discounted rate at 50% off of the normal price for students. That normal price comes out to $14,99, but with thee student discount it comes out to a manageable $7.49/month. On top of that, the service offers a free 6-month trial for students looking to try the service out. once the trial is over, that 50% off rate will still apply until the user is no longer a student.
Max
For some time, it seemed that Max didn’t offer a discount for enrolled students. That has changed since the company changed its name from HBO Max to just Max.
The streaming service’s current offer allows students to grab a subscription with ads for $4.99 a month. That’s down from the normal ad-enabled $9.99.
Paramount+
Paramount+ hasn’t been one of the biggest and most exciting streaming services around, but it does offer access to some shows and sports that are worth tuning into.
The student plan offered by Paramount+ comes in at $4.50/month, which is only 25% off of the average $5.99 rate.
Apple TV+
Apple TV+, as opposed to other basic streaming services mentioned, has surprised a lot of users since arriving on the scene. The originals it offers are extremely popular, and with good reason. According to the company, Apple TV+ and Apple Music can be acquired with a student discount for $5.99/month for up to 4 years with the streaming service. That’s a substantial cut for one of the better services available right now.
The student discount does not include access to MLS Season Pass, as far as we could tell.
YouTube Premium
While not exactly a streaming service, YouTube Premium serves as a required mention. Google offers a discounted $7.99/month discount for students. That subscription comes with access to YouTube Music, which integrates itself nicely into the YouTube app, both on Android and on web.
Peacock
Peacock is another good service to dive into as it offers a lot of good shows from NBC and other providers. That positions it as a great service for both shows and sports. Currently, Peacock offers its student plan for $1.99/month, which is one of the better values on the list.
