Google starts repair program for Pixel 9 Pro displays, extends Fold warranty

Google has today announced a repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro series around display issues, while also giving the Pixel 9 Pro Fold an extended 3-year warranty.

On a support page, Google details that the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are both eligible for an “Extended Repair Program” that covers certain display issues. Namely, a vertical line issue that runs from the top of the device to the bottom, or display flicker.

Google has determined that a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL devices may experience issues that affect functionality of the device.

…Eligibility requires a vertical line on the display. It must run from bottom to top. Display flicker on Pixel 9 Pro devices also qualifies.

The repair program covers devices for 3 years after the original retail purchase date (i.e. when the phone was purchased brand new). Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL owners can check if their device is eligible through Google’s website. Devices with cracked displays and other damage may not be eligible.

Further, Google has also announced a separate “Extended Warranty Program” for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google’s stated reason for the program is that the company “has determined that a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices may experience issues that affect functionality of the device.”

Google has determined that a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices may experience issues that affect functionality of the device. Google offers an extended warranty program to provide support coverage for affected Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices for 3 years after the date of original retail purchase.

Your Pixel 9 Pro Fold device may be eligible for this Extended Warranty Program if it exhibits issues that affect functionality of the device. If your phone is ineligible for the Extended Warranty Program, but you are experiencing other issues, your phone may still be covered under Google’s Limited Warranty.

The issue itself isn’t clearly explained, but it also seems to be related to the display. The page goes on to explain that “cracked displays or cover-glass may disqualify your device” with other damage methods such as “liquid intrusion” also disqualifying a device. A later FAQ is what most implies this is related to the display, as it relates to Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners who “paid for a screen replacement… prior to December 8, 2025.”

Google says that if your Pixel 9 Pro Fold is impacted, “you may be eligible for a replacement at no charge.” The extended warranty kicks in for “3 years after the date of original retail purchase.” The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL’s program only promises a repair rather than a device replacement.

Again, the page doesn’t explain exactly what issue the Pixel 9 Pro Fold must be impacted by to be eligible. We’ll update this post should Google offer more detail on what issue triggered this extended warranty for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Like the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners can check to see if they are eligible via Google’s website.
