YouTube announced Playables in 2023 as lightweight games that could be accessed on the platform. The new Gemini 3-powered YouTube Playables Builder lets anyone build a game without any coding experience.
The idea is for creators to build “fun, bite-sized games in minutes and share them directly with [their] audience on YouTube.” Games can be played in the YouTube mobile apps and the web.
A new era of creator-made games
Leveraging Gemini 3, you can create with a text, image, or video prompt. The Playables Builder itself is a web app.
Writing a short text description of the game. Bring your game concept to life with words. Convert your imagination into code simply by typing.
Uploading an image for inspiration. Bring your game concept to life with visuals. Upload a reference image to inspire your trailer, or paste a link to get started.
Uploading a video concept. Bring your game concept to life with a video. Upload footage to inspire gameplay mechanics and visual styles for your Playable.
YouTube has six such examples today:
- @AyChristene: SUGAR CUBE
- @bilawal: XENO-RANCHER ENDLESS
- @goharsguide: STUDY ZONE
- @JuniperDev: FLINGALING
- @Mogswamp: DIRT RUNNER
- @Sambucha: BUCHA BLOCKS
The Playables Builder is currently in beta, with YouTube offering a Trusted Tester Opt-In form that asks for your channel details. The pilot program is only available in select markets. If selected, you’ll be provided with log-in credentials that are distinct from your Google Account.
