Following a merger with Oppo that has resulted in Realme becoming a sub-brand of the smartphone maker, a new report reveals layoffs inside of the company.
Realme and Oppo announced in January that Realme would be merged into Oppo and act as a sub-brand of the company, similar to OnePlus. The change comes as 2026 looks to be a rocky year for the smartphone market, in particular for many Chinese smartphone makers.
And it seems that Oppo’s cost-cutting is already underway.
91Mobiles reports that Realme has laid off its sales team in India, with retail employees and sales managers remaining “on duty” for “the next one or two months.” One executive apparently told the outlet that Realme asked them to resign with an April 30 cutoff date.
It’s unclear how the merger as a whole will impact Realme smartphones, but it certainly doesn’t sound like the future is bright for employees, which is always sad to see.
