Gemini app making ‘Temporary chats’ easier to start

After introducing last August, Google might make the Gemini app’s Temporary chat feature much more prominent.

At the moment, you start a Temporary chat by opening the navigation drawer and tapping the dotted icon next to New chat.

Gemini is testing a design where it appears directly on the homepage to the left of your profile avatar. The same chat icon is used, but it’s now larger and drops the circle. When selected, there’s a blue highlight for additional emphasis.

This change applies to both the mobile app and website. On Android, this change helps declutter the navigation drawer, with the homepage having more than enough space for it.

Temporary chats don’t appear in your history or Gemini Apps Activity. Conversations “aren’t used to train models or personalize your experience,” which is important in light of Past chats and Personal Intelligence seeing broader availability.

The new placement for Temporary chat is appearing on just two of our Gemini accounts today. It’s not yet widely available.
