A new report claims to reveal the launch date for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and “Wide” foldable in July, while also claiming that the S Pen might be returning to the series.
Korea Economic Times reports that Samsung is planning to host its next Unpacked event in London, England, on July 22. The event would see the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Samsung’s rumored “Wide” foldable, too.
The move to London continues in Samsung’s trend of bringing its foldable launches to locations around the globe. Fold/Flip 5 were announced in Korea, while Fold/Flip 6 debuted in Paris, France before the Fold/Flip 7 moved back to New York City. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 launch date being in late July is perfectly in line with Samsung’s past few foldable launches.
The report doesn’t mention Galaxy Z Flip 8, but it’d be strange if that device wasn’t announced at the same event. Samsung often launches new Galaxy Watch models at this same event, so Galaxy Watch 9 could be on the docket as well.
What is mentioned is the S Pen which, apparently, Samsung will be reviving for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and/or “Wide” foldable.
We’d not heard much about a potential S Pen return, but the report claims that “Samsung plans to sequentially introduce the S Pen after unveiling the Wide Fold.” It’s a bit hard to tell exactly what the timeline is here, but it’s a welcome return nonetheless if only because the stylus was missed on last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. At the time, Samsung said support was removed in pursuit of making the foldable thinner, but there were rumblings around a switch in stylus tech to bring back S Pen support in future models, something Samsung itself recently hinted at. The report suggests that Apple’s entrance into the foldable space, expected in September, pushed Samsung to bring back the feature. Other competing Android foldables have also been doubling down on stylus support.
