Leaks are already starting to surface as the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is seen for the first time in official-looking renders.
Samsung doesn’t appear to be changing anything, other than shaving off a hair here and there. Courtesy of OnLeaks and MyMobiles, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 gets its own CAD render. The rendered model looks almost exactly like the Galaxy Z Flip 7, including the outer display layout and hinge profile.
Don’t worry, your eyes aren’t deceiving you.
Those expected specs make up a device that comes in at 166.8 x 75.4 x 6.6mm unfolded. That profile is almost identical to the Galaxy Z Flip 7, except for a 0.5mm difference in thickness when folded. In every other aspect, the Z Flip 8 is essentially the same phone as the Galaxy Z Flip 7 if this leak holds true. The displays are almost identical, the camera layout is similar, and the thickness differences are almost negligible.
One could call this a refinement on Samsung’s part, but less than a shaved millimeter may not be enough to entice buyers to upgrade. Samsung’s attention is clearly divided, while it’s busy designing and implementing other form factors like a wider Galaxy Z Fold and the recently released (then discontinued) TriFold.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 leak doesn’t account for nuances, like a better hinge and less visible crease, or internal specifications like an upgraded memory and processor configuration. That would be welcome, though recent RAM cost increases are tempering any expectations for high-performance pairings for the foreseeable future. We’ve already seen leaks indicating Samsung wants to use the same battery layout.
Even with the small changes, at least Samsung didn’t make the Galaxy Z Flip 8 thicker than its predecessor. That’s exactly what Motorola seems to be doing, according to previous reports that the Razr will be 0.6mm thicker.
Again, these renders show a glimpse of what the phone may be. Hopefully, Samsung is able to implement some real upgrades.
