Pixel Buds Pro 2 get ‘dynamic’ ANC, sleep sync, and more next month, Olive color available now

It’s been a couple of years since Google rolled out a new set of Pro-branded earbuds, and while it’s still not ready to debut a true third-gen set for its premium audio offering, it does have a fresh colorway for the Buds Pro 2 alongside a fresh software upgrade for all users both new and existing.

Google is adding Olive to its lineup of Pixel Buds Pro 2 colors, matching the new Olive tone seen on the Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold. It’s clearly Google’s big color swing for this year, and it joins Hazel, Porcelain, Peony, and last year’s Moonstone as the options available to match (or accent) your Pixel phone. Like the other tones, only the outer-facing shell on the Buds Pro 2 is Olive, with the rest of the plastic shell colored black. The case, likewise, is an ever-disappointing plain white.

Actually, Google hasn’t only indulged its internal dense of déjà vu to roll out a fresh phone-matching color — it’s also announcing a new update for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 today, just like it did last year. This patch isn’t nearly as jam-packed as last year’s “Feature Drop,” which included Adaptive Audio, Loud Noise Protection, gesture support, and more, but it’s not nothing.

Google says it’s improved noise cancelation on its top-tier earbuds to work better no matter how the tip is actually sitting in your ear, with the company saying not even jumping jacks can take away from consistent noise removal. Gemini is gaining audio support, so you can turn up or down the bass or treble depending on what’s playing. The Buds 2 Pro now sync with your Pixel Watch to detect when you’ve fallen asleep, automatically pausing your music in the process. Finally, Google’s improved Live Translate support for over 70 languages.

Pixel Buds continue to integrate closely with Google’s growing ecosystem as well. Pixel Tag owners can rely on their earbuds to ask Gemini to locate or ring their missing tag without pulling their phone out of their pocket.

The Pixel 11-matching Olive-colored Pixel Buds Pro 2 are up for order today, while improved noise canceling, sleep sync, and the rest of Google’s new update rolls out in September.

The Pixel 11 series is available for pre-order now.
