Sony officially unveils its new flagship 5-inch Xperia Z smartphone

Sony-Xperia-Z-ZL-CES-2013

There has already been a few sightings of Sony’s new Xperia lineup leading up to the company’s official CES press conference taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center tonight. Sony just officially took the wraps off one of the two devices, confirming previously leaked images and filling us in on some of the final specs.

Both of the devices, the flagship 4G LTE Sony Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL sport a 5-inch, 1080p display and very similar designs, but the ZL repositions the front-facing camera and loses a bit of width on the bezel in the process (as discovered in the leaked images above from Sony). Some of the specs Sony shared for the flagship Z model include NFC, a 13 mega pixel main camera, and a water resistance exterior.

Sony is yet to announce any details for what is presumably the lower-end Xperia ZL, but the press event is ongoing and we’ll update with any additional details.

Phandroid got its hands on full specs for both of the new devices below, which also lists Q1 global rollouts for both models:
