Acer today announced the launch of a new Chromebook, although those familiar with the company’s current C7 Chromebook will already be familiar with the new model. Apart from a drop from 4GB of RAM to 2GB, the only difference between the old C7 Chromebook and the new Chromebook C720-2848 is the price. Dropping down from 2GB of RAM also brings the price down to $199, down from the $249 Acer charges for the old 4GB model.

Otherwise specs remain the same: an 11.6-nich 1366 x 768 display, dual-core Intel® Celeron® processor, 16GB SDD, and three USB ports. The old model is still for sale, but now Acer officially has one of the most affordable Chromebooks on the market with its new $199 option. It’s already available on BestBuy and should hit other outlets shortly.

This is a terribly misinformed article… there is no new $199 acer. this article is all about last years Acer C710, that was available last year for the same price. the acer c710 has been around for a while and has been sold in two versions: one as a 16gb solid state version and one as a 320 GB traditional hard drive. both for 199.00 – and both sold through Best Buy over the last year.

Unfortunately, this is not correct. The article pertains to the C720 which launched originally with 4GB of RAM at $249 and is now available with the same list of specs for $199 and 2GB of RAM. It is a different model than last year, including the processor and battery life.

  2. I have TWO Acer C7 chromebooks that I bought at Best Buy six months ago for $199 each. THIS IS NOT A NEW PRICE POINT PEOPLE! You also should add to the story that the new C720 (more expensive one) has a 8.5 hour battery.
