Fossil Q Founder Android Wear watch now available to order for $295

Earlier this month, popular watchmaker Fossil announced a range of connected fashion items. Among them were a Bluetooth connected analog watch and a fitness band built in to a stylish leather bracelet. But what we were really excited about was the company’s announcement that it was going to build its own Android Wear-powered smartwatch. Today, the Fossil Q Founder is finally available to order…

As of right now, the only model available is the stainless steel Fossil Q Founder which you can pick up directly from Fossil’s online store for $295. If — like me — you were more keen on the brown leather strap model, you’ll have to wait a little while longer. That version of Fossil’s first smartwatch isn’t available just yet. The placeholder page simply says ‘Coming Soon’.

Key specs include 4GB internal storage, and a 400mAh battery which Fossil claims will last for an entire day, much like most Android Wear watches. Where it differs is that this is one of only two current Android smartwatches to use an Intel-made processor; the other being the  tres expensive Tag Heuer Connected watch.

The 46mm steel case is 13mm thick, and the round screen features a small, black ‘flat tire, similar to the Moto 360. It’s IP67 water-resistant and you can easily swap out the included 22mm band for any standard band or bracelet of your choice. It’s also equipped with the usual range of sensors for tracking motion, light etc.

Fossil is making a real push for the connected wearable scene as it attempts to remain a relevant brand in the modern connected era. Releasing its very own style-focussed fitness trackers and watches is a clear sign of the company’s intent. But perhaps more pertinent is the fact that it recently spent $265 to acquire Misfit, a company known for making fashion-forward fitness trackers and accessories.

If you want to grab one, you can order now from Fossil’s store. It’s compatible with any Android phone with Bluetooth 4.0+ and Android 4.4 or later.
