OnePlus is ditching invite system with OnePlus 3, international launch on June 14 inside The Loop [Video]

We reported earlier this morning that the OnePlus 3 was being officially launched June 15 in China, but with no official word on an international launch yet.

However, the company’s co-founder Carl Pei officially disclosed the date, confirming the rumor that claimed it to be June 14, but also adding an extra bit of news…

When OnePlus first started, their to-be infamous invite system helped them manage demand and avoid the indefinite waits that usually follow flash sales, and thus organize the numerous operations needed to bring the original One to consumers.

“Some got into a frenzy hunting for invites, while others have complained continuously and loudly ever since,” says Pei, but apparently the latter group had its way, as the Chinese company is (finally!) ditching the invite system for good.

The OnePlus 3, in fact, will be sold directly to customers, just like any other device. “We’re proud to have reached a point where we feel confident in making our new device available without invites from day one,” reads Pei’s post.

Speaking of its launch, the June 14 date has been confirmed as the day which will see The Loop‘s doors open, precisely at 12.30PM EST.

The Loop is OnePlus’ virtual reality space that has been expressly built to recreate the VR launch experience proposed last year with the 2‘s unveiling, but this time taking things a step further and offering proper, Gear VR-like headsets to join.

Loop VR owners entering The Loop will be the first able to purchase the 3; as per Pei: “During the first two hours of the launch, our new flagship device will be available exclusively in the Loop, which doubles as the world’s first global VR shopping experience. Open sales for the OnePlus 3 will begin on OnePlus.net at 3:00 PM Eastern Time.”

The seemingly all-metal flagship will be in the hands of everyone very soon, then, but a few (30) lucky early adopters will still get a copy prior to everyone else, if selected through OnePlus’ “Lab” initiative.

Applications are still open and will be until the end of the week, so make sure to head over to their website if you want to give that a go.
