Update: Nikon added more press shots (above) to its website with the S800c’s white paper.

Nikon just unveiled its Android-powered, point-and-shoot Coolpix S800c camera that we detailed earlier this week.

Just as rumors suggested, it boasts built-in GPS for geo-tagging, a 10X optical zoom lens, 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 3.5-inch touchscreen display, 1080p video capture, 4GB of internal storage, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Google Play access.

“The S800c establishes a new line in the COOLPIX S series powered by Android with built-in Wi-Fi compatibility for operation similar to that of a smartphone and wireless Internet connection,” announced Nikon on its website. “The S800c fulfills Nikon’s latest proposal for new ways to use digital cameras–Capture, View, Connect, Enjoy–all in a single, compact body.”

The S800c will be available in September in both white and black versions for a suggested retail price of $349.95.

Samsung Electronics, a South Korea-based consumer electronics conglomerate, is right on track to début commercially feasible flexible displays within a year and has taken the wraps off a new CMOS sensor for smartphones and tablets that can capture depth information and the usual RGB color data.

According to OLED-Display.net, Samsung Mobile Display confirmed it would begin mass production of flexible AMOLEDs in 2012. The firm will add two new production lines to build flexible OLED displays. Samsung executives previously confirmed plans to build phones and tablets featuring flexible display technology some time this year with spokesman Robert Yi going on the record about the matter:

The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012, hopefully the earlier part. The application probably will start from the handset side.

You’d be right to argue that most smartphones double as digital cameras these days, but Panasonic’s upcoming Android handsets is in an entirely different league when it comes to snapping photos on the go. Their four-inch Gingerbread device dubbed the Lumix Phone 101P has a high-resolution camera with a 13.2-megapixel CMOS Lumix sensor with Mobile Venus Engine and water-proof body.

Lumix is Panasonic’s brand of digital cameras, ranging from pocket point-and-shoot models to digital SLRs. Other specs include a QHD display with a 960-by-540 pixel resolution, a 1GHz OMAP4430 dual-core chip from Texas Instruments, e-wallet features and digital TV tuner. The Lumix Phone 101P should launch on SoftBank’s network in Japan in November.
