If these words resonate with you: the Amiga 500 computer can live again in your Chrome browser then this story courtesy of CNET is for you. Google developer Christian Stefansen is introducing a whole new world to the Amiga 500 thanks to Portable Native Client software and Google Chrome.

Unfortunately for many of us, you’ll have to be up into your late 30’s or 40’s to really recognize the Amiga interface, but thanks to 400,000 lines of code you can do exactly that. The emulator allows for some gaming thanks to the Native Client technology that runs software written for a particular processor close to the speeds that native software would run. There’s still some question whether Native Client software will grab hold of more developers in the future, but Stefansen wasn’t deterred:

“The original port to Native Client was done in four days,” Stefansen said. “However, there was a lot of polishing afterwards, taking at least four times as long as the original port.”

Long live the Amiga 500.
