Sony updates its bootloader unlocking tools

In an effort to appeal to developers and tinkerers, Sony has made it easier to unlock the bootloaders on its Xperia devices. The company recently updated its bootloader unlocking service with a modernized look and feel that adds support for newer products like the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. Designed with a refreshed interface, the updated process is now broken into a few easy steps.

First, you’ll locate select your device from a list of supported hardware and submit a valid email address. After that, you’ll receive an email from Sony with an attached URL to continue the process. The link will direct you to a webpage requesting your device’s IMEI number. Once you enter your device’s information and agree to the company’s terms of service, you’ll receive an unlock code for your phone or tablet.

While Sony’s revamped setup makes it easier to unlock your device’s bootloader, you’ll still be doing so at your own risk.
