Samsung Galaxy Note 4 gets put through hands-on bend test (Video)

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 is beginning to hit stores across the world and the burning question is, will it bend? Well, maybe not for everyone. Samsung originally provided its own bend test as proof that supports the Note 4’s durability, but YouTuber Unbox Therapy decided to take this test into his own hands. Literally…

As you would imagine, anything will bend if you bend it. This new bend test simulates extreme conditions that are only possible with the force of hands, but at the end of it all it seems the Note 4 does bend a little bit. What does this mean for you? First off, don’t go bending your shiny new Galaxy Note 4.

In the bend test video below, it seems that the Galaxy Note 4 will bend slightly, just beneath its volume rocker. Coincidentally, that’s nearly the same place Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus would bend which caused the Internet explosion of #BendGate. Does this mean the Note 4 has durability issues? Not exactly.

It took an extreme amount of hand pressure to eventually bend the Galaxy Note 4. It’s very unlikely that your Note 4 will ever experience something so drastic. We’re not exactly sure how many pounds of pressure were being applied by the hands in the video, but in comparison it took a massive 150 pounds for the Note 3 to see any real damage. The plastic build of the Galaxy Note 3 is going to be more resistant to bending than the metal frame on the Note 4.

According to Consumer Reports, the Galaxy Note 3 is the strongest smartphone listed in its test results. There’s no official word on how many pounds of pressure the Note 4 will take, but it’s safe to assume that there will be other scientific tests performed in the future.

In my opinion, If there’s a serious issue with the design of a smartphone that allows it to easily bend under normal circumstances, the company responsible should address the issue. Is this bending craze a real issue to you? For most, this isn’t going to be a deal break when it comes to future purchases, but we’re interested in your thoughts. Only time will tell us if the Note 4 is a durable smartphone.
