T-Mobile introduces new Simply Prepaid plans starting at $40/month

T-Mobile continues to shake up the wireless industry by introducing a number of affordable plans and options as part of its ongoing Un-carrier initiative. Today, the carrier announced that it is expanding choices for prepaid customers with new Simply Prepaid plans for as little as $40 per month. The new plans will be available for new and existing customers starting January 25th.

Simply Prepaid plans provide unlimited talk, text and data buckets of up to 1GB, 3GB or 5GB of 4G LTE data, with each tier costing $10 less than T-Mobile’s existing Simple Choice prepaid plans. T-Mobile throttles data to 2G speeds of 128 Kbps after your 4G LTE data limit is reached. In return for the discount, Simply Prepaid plans do not come with some of the bells and whistles of the regular Simple Choice plans, including Music Freedom and unlimited international texting.

Simply Prepaid plans will include Wi-Fi calling at no additional cost and up to 8 Mbps speeds, enabling customers to download a song in under 10 seconds or an HD TV show in around 8 minutes. Prepaid customers looking for unlimited 4G LTE data and Mobile Hotspot will still have to resort to T-Mobile’s existing $80 per month plan, as Simply Prepaid plans are capped off at 5GB of 4G LTE data.

T-Mobile’s new Simply Prepaid plans:

  • $40 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 1GB of 4G LTE
  • $50 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 3GB of 4G LTE
  • $60 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 5GB of 4G LTE

T-Mobile’s existing Simple Choice prepaid plans:

  • $50 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 1GB of 4G LTE
  • $60 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 3GB of 4G LTE
  • $70 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 5GB of 4G LTE
  • $80 / month for unlimited 4G LTE data, talk and text
