OnePlus officially announces the OnePlus 2, available August 11

After months upon months of rumors and speculation, OnePlus finally announced its highly anticipated OnePlus 2 smartphone this evening. While nearly everything was already known about the device, it’s nice to get confirmation and some rehashing of details from OnePlus. As expected, the OnePlus 2 features a 5.5-inch display at 1080p and a refreshed design. The company brags that it’s not a 2015 flagship, but rather a 2016 flagship. The device will be available August 11th in the US,  Canada, India, EU, and China. It will rollout to Southeast Asia in Q4.

On the front of the device is a fingerprint sensor, as well as a front-facing camera, while the back houses a OnePlus logo and a 13MP f/2.0 camera capable of shooting 4k video. The fingerprint sensor can support up to five different fingerprints, similar to Apple’s iPhone fingerprint. As far as specs go, the device is powered by an improved version of the Snapdragon 810 that solves all of the reported issues with overheating. The device also features 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and a 3,300Ah battery, as well as a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

OnePlus says that every OnePlus 2 will come with their classic Sandstone Black back, although more will be available separately. The device will ship with OnePlus’ custom OxygenOS, which it notes is not stock Android, but rather has several tweaks to “add real value to the user experience.”

OnePlus is brining the OnePlus 2 to several cities in pop-up store form. The full list is available here. You can sign up for an invite here.

For 16GB the device runs $329, while 64GB runs $389.
