This morning, Oppo has officially taken the wraps off its latest flagship phone. The R7s boasts a host of flagship specs but, being Oppo, will likely cost less than the price of the traditional flagship phones when it launches across the globe over the coming months…
Oppo’s latest phablet boasts a 5.5-inch AMOLED FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution display, built in to a device that’s only 75.4mm wide and 6.95mm thin. Covering the display is a 2.5D piece of glass, with slight curves at the edges and bezels that are just 2.2mm thin. On the outside, the rear of the phone is made from a specially treated metal alloy using ‘state of the art’ surface coating technology. In English, that probably means that it’s been blasted with really fine particles. The phone will ship in gold or silver metal finishes.
The R7s is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and Adreno 405 graphics, with 4GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. Storage is expandable too, using the built in Micro SD card tray, which doubles as a dual-SIM tray. To keep it going through the day, there’s a non-removable 3,070mAh battery which supports the company’s fast-charging VOOC Flash Charge technology. Oppo claims you’ll get 2 hours of talk time from just 5 mins plugged in. What’s more, Oppo has built in ‘five levels of protection’ to the charging and battery to ensure the faster charging doesn’t damage any components. There’s also a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera with 1080p video recording and an 8MP front snapper.
Oppo’s smartphone comes loaded with ColorOS2.1, based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, which has a few interesting software features. Those include ‘quick shake’ which automatically reorganizes icons on desktops and folders, and automatic cleaning, which removes unneeded and unused apps from memory. The R67s goes on sale in Australia and in a number of Asian markets next month, with Europe and the US set to get the phone in December. No pricing has been mentioned so far, but the R7 currently sells for around $429 on Oppomart.
