Samsung’s huge Galaxy View tablet is finally official. Sammy announced the device on its official blog today, and confirmed many of the rumors we’ve previously heard. It’s quite obvious from the announcement that Samsung views this as a versatile multimedia device, not so much a portable tablet. Think of it as a touchscreen portable TV that runs Android Lollipop.
As you can imagine, it’s not a small device. The Galaxy View measures in at 451.8mm wide and 275.8mm tall, but is a respectable 11.9mm thick. On the front, there’s large 18.4-inch Full HD 1080p display and 2.1MP camera. It’s powered by a 1.6Ghz octa-core processor, paired with 2GB RAM and a 5,700mAh battery which Samsung claims will give you 8 hours battery life. There are two 4W speakers on the back, as well as a MicroSD card slot to compliment the 32GB or 64GB internal storage.
“At Samsung, we are committed to creating new possibilities and bringing our consumers the best mobile experience. We are very excited to introduce the new Galaxy View, providing an entirely new way of consuming mobile video and entertainment.”
It’s not all about size and specs though. Samsung has built a custom user interface dedicated to video content which gives easy and quick access to content from a wide range of providers. It also has a built-in two-way stand to hold the device up while watch your favorite videos.
We first heard rumors of Samsung’s gigantic tablet a couple of months ago, and since then, we’ve seen a number of leaks corroborating those rumors. What’s more, Adorama preemptively offered it up for pre-order just this week.
