CORRECTION: Motorola got in touch with us to say that the Turbo Edition, like the regular Moto G, has a 720p screen. So, not quite as tempting for the bump in price.
Over the past few years we’ve seen a rise of affordable smartphones offering a great experience to buyers. The original Moto G was, arguably, the phone that kicked it off, right at the bottom end of the market. This year, we saw the arrival of the 3rd generation which still offers a lot of bang for your buck. In Mexico, Motorola just released an even better model. It costs a little extra, but looks like it’ll easily be worth the outlay…
The Moto G Turbo Edition sticks with the same size 5-inch display, but packs in more pixels. Instead of using a 1280 x 720 resolution screen, the Turbo Edition has a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution screen boasting an impressive pixel density of 441ppi. That’s almost 150 more pixels per inch. What’s more, Motorola has replaced the underwhelming Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor with the octa-core Snapdragon 615. It has 2GB RAM as standard and 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to an extra 128GB via MicroSD.
Apart from that, virtually all the specifications are the same as the regular Moto G. It has the same 13MP camera with dual-LED flash, 5MP front camera, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with plans to upgrade to Marshmallow soon. It even has the same 2,470mAh battery, suggesting it won’t last as long on a single charge as the 720p Moto G. Still, it should be enough to get through a day’s use on a full charge. It is compatible with TurboPower (Quick-Charge), so even if it does drain, you’ll be able to top it up really quickly.
As far as we know, this device is only being launched in Mexico, and will be available to buy from November 13th for approximately $283. Considering the 16GB/2GB model of the regular Moto G costs $220, that jump in price isn’t terrible. You’re still getting a lot of phone for the money. It has competition from the likes of the OnePlus X, but it’s available to buy without an invite, which will always a bonus.
