Earlier this month, Huawei took the wraps off its first premium dual-camera equipped flagship, the P9. If a teaser which leaked to Weibo holds any weight, the company is about to introduce similar technology to its sub-brand, Honor’s next phone.
In the teaser, we see a pair of identical rings light up to form the number 8, before projecting the letter ‘V’ up in to the top half of the leaked poster. The pair of rings looks strikingly similar to those shown in the Huawei P9 teasers before its launch at the beginning of this month, suggesting the Honor V8 will also have a pair of cameras on the back, which combine in a similar manner to the LEICA-powered snappers on the back of Huawei’s most recent flagship. According to the leaked event teaser, we should be expecting Honor and Huawei to announce the new device on May 10th.
Apart from the dual camera, we’re not sure what else to expect from the upcoming Honor V8. It’s probably safe to assume that — like almost every other Honor phone — the V8 will have a thin, solid all-metal build. It’s likely that it’ll run EMUI on top of Android Marshmallow.
Huawei made major strides in western markets last year. That was thanks predominantly to its affordable sub-brand, Honor which has a growing reputation for releasing very affordable devices with high end specifications and build quality. Phones like the Honor 7 and Honor 5X are prime examples of why Huawei’s budget brand is so well regarded among tech media professionals and consumers alike. If the Honor V8 is real, and makes it to market, we should expect more of the same.
