Google Keyboard 5.1 with custom themes rolling out, Clock app updated for Android N

As part of the third Android N Developer Preview, Google Keyboard 5.1 added multiple themes and the ability to use your own images as a background. That version is now rolling out (via Android Police) to all devices through the Play Store. In other minor app updates today, the Clock app added support for various Nougat features.

Version 5.0 of Google Keyboard was released in May and introduced a variety of new features, including a one-handed mode and the ability to use the space bar as a move cursor in text fields. This update just adds the ability to change the keyboard theme. By default, there are 15 presets in a variety of colors.

Users can also select their own image to use as a background for the keyboard. A selector lets you crop an image into a rectangle and adjust the photo brightness. Custom themes are saved to the list of keyboard styles. On Android Nougat, version 5.1 also brings support for the latest Unicode 9.0 emoji.

With the final Android N Developer Preview nearing release, Google is beginning to update its apps with support for the latest OS features. Version 4.5.1 of the Clock app adds support for Multi-window and Direct Boot. Other features include useful warnings when alarms are silenced by device settings.
