YouTube Kids launched on Android and iOS last year as a portal for kid and family friendly curated videos with strict parental controls and restrictions. YouTube’s paid Red subscription service has just announced that it is adding support for the Kids app, with features like ad-free and offline videos, at no additional cost.
This is especially ideal for those who have already subscribed to the $14.99 family plan. YouTube Kids apps associated with a Red subscription will no longer show ads and allow users to download and play videos for when there isn’t a connection. Additionally, audio playback can continue when the app is in the background and when the screen is locked.
At the moment, YouTube Red is only available in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, while the Kids mobile apps are available in many more countries internationally, including the UK, Canada, and Ireland. As a result, only those who use the Kids app in the three countries will have access to the Red features.
The YouTube Red features are already live in the Kids app. Additionally, YouTube Kids will receive a number of updates in the coming months, including giving parents the ability to customize the content that appears in the app. There will also be the ability to block certain types of videos.
