With last year’s ASUS ZenWatch 2 proving to be a popular low-cost option, we’re excited to see what the company has in store for the ZenWatch 3. While not many details have leaked yet, a recent listing at the FCC has given us our first look at what to expect.
Ausdroid has uncovered a new diagram from the FCC showing the rear panel from the ZenWatch 3 — which shows a circular design. Previous ZenWatch options used a square display with rounded rectangular designs. On the other hand, most Android Wear devices have adopted a circular display, such as the Huawei Watch and the LG G Watch R. This move also makes sense considering that the upcoming Android Wear 2.0 update is optimized for circular displays.
The listing also confirms a few key specifications of the ZenWatch 3 including Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and input charging speeds at 5V/2A. The word “input” likely means that the device will charge over pins rather than wirelessly. “Customized keys” are also referenced which likely points to a three-button layout on the watch like we saw on the LG Watch Urbane LTE.
With IFA right around the corner and an event for ASUS scheduled for the 31st, we could very well see more regarding the ZenWatch 3 in the coming weeks. Hopefully ASUS can manage to keep the price low on this upcoming device as they did on the previous models.
