Android Pay goes live in Poland with support from 3 banks and 400,000 retail locations

Android Pay is continuing its slow expansion around the world. The mobile payment platform is going live in Poland on right now with support for 400,000 points of sale and a handful of banks…

Android Pay in Poland is supported by Alior Bank, Bank Zachodni WBK, and T-Mobile Banking Services. Google is also working to add support for mBank sooner rather than later, but there’s no clear timeline at this point (via Android.com.pl).

In terms of retailers, Android Pay in Poland is supported at pretty much any location that has the required NFC terminal hardware, which is available at more than 400,000 locations in the country.

Regarding the expansion, Google’s global head of payments Pali Bath noted that Android Pay in-app support won’t be available at launch for Android Pay in Poland. This means that users in Poland won’t be able to use Android within applications to make purchases, only at retail terminals:

We are very glad that Polish users of Android devices can now benefit from easy and secure payments. Using Android Pay is safer and much faster than searching the wallet to find a plastic card. Customers can pay Android Pay more than 400,000 points of sale in Poland and soon in mobile applications.

It’s technically already November 17th in Poland, which means the service should be live or in the process of going live as we speak. If you’re located in Poland, let us know if you’re able to use Android Pay and how it goes for you!
