OnePlus CEO Carl Pei said earlier today that the OnePlus 3’s Android Nougat release is getting priority over the many complaints people have about its touch latency issues, and it looks like he was serious. Now, the now-outdated flagship from the Chinese company is getting its first beta build of OxygenOS based on Android Nougat…
The new update was announced today on the OnePlus forum: “Today, we have a particularly exciting announcement: Open Beta 8 – built on Android Nougat – is available now for the OnePlus 3.”
Here’s the full change log for this release:
Some key updates in this build:
- Upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat
- New Notifications Design
- New Settings Menu Design
- Multi-Window View
- Notification Direct Reply
- Custom DPI Support
- Added Status Bar Icon Options
- Added Quick Launch For 3rd Party Applications
- Improved Shelf Customization
You can head over to the OnePlus forum to download the update, which is a beta and might have some issues. These include, at the moment, Android Pay not working correctly, stability and performance bugs, and it seems you can’t easily downgrade back to Marshmallow.
To install the update, simply drag and drop it to the root of your device’s SD card storage, head over to the System update section within the settings app, choose “Local upgrade” from the gear menu in the top-right corner, and choose the file from the list. Then just wait.
