Productivity services are a dime a dozen, but that hasn’t stopped Samsung from releasing their own app that combines email, calendar, and contacts. Featuring a unified view and universal search, Samsung Focus has wide support for a number of consumer and enterprise services.
Just released on the Play Store, the free app is billed as a “unified productivity application.” Samsung Focus works with a number of backend services, including IMAP, POP3, and Exchange ActiveSync, to merge various work related items into one interface.
The app’s main view is a Google Now-like feed that surfaces immediate appointments, tasks, and other important messages. Cards are heavily used to show pieces of information with a universal search feature in the top right and a FAB to start new emails and calendar events.
Four other tabs at the bottom provide quick access to email, calendar, memo, and contacts. The other sections of the app are quite standard, with unified views and other smart features like automatic calendar events being the central focus of the app. A navigation bar also allows users to drill down and show specific accounts.
The app supports the following services, with all data being stored on the device with no cloud component on Samsung’s end:
- Exchange Server 2003 SP2/SP3 and above
- Google, Naver (IMAP/POP3)
- Office 365
- Hotmail
- Outlook.com
- Other servers that support Exchange ActiveSync : IBM Notes Traveler, Groupwise, Kerio, Zimbra, Horde, IceWarp, MDaemon, etc.
Focus is only available for Samsung devices running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow or higher. It is currently free to download from the Play Store.
