Galaxy Buds 2 Pro update looks to bring Auto Switch and lays foundation for Auracast

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro have been updated with some of the features we’ve been anticipating, including Auto Switch to move between devices easily and what looks like Auracast capabilities Samsung promised last month.

Along with the AI updates coming to Galaxy devices this year, Samsung also wants to push AI to the Galaxy Buds lineup. That includes the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Galaxy Buds 2, and Buds FE. According to an announcement last month, the new update is said to bring Live Translations features, Auto Switch capabilities, and expanded Auracast functionality.

In an update rolling out to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro now, it looks like part of that AI upgrade is on its way. According to the changelog, it looks like Auto Switch is the first feature to hit the buds. It specifically notes the feature that Samsung mentioned in its update announcement and states that the “operations for connectivity with PCs and usability have been improved.”

Auto Switch is an Android tool that has only been available for the Pixel Buds up to this point. It allows your connected devices to seamlessly switch bud connectivity based on whichever device is receiving a call. It’s a fantastic tool to have on hand, working automatically.

The update also mentioned Auracast, though it’s unclear if this update brings the TV functionality Samsung mentioned or if it simply improves stability. The changelog simply reads, “An Auracast and device operation-related stabilization code has been applied.” It seems this is more housekeeping than anything, but it may indicate that Samsung is prepping the buds for the full Auracast update soon.

The update does not mention Samsung’s interpreter tool in any way, indicating another update is in the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro pipeline beyond the current Auto Switch upgrade. With that update, we’ll likely see the entirety of what Samsung promised last month, including Interpreter mode and Auracast with TVs.
